Jordan Bruner is an artist and filmmaker working across painting and animation. Her work centers on women, animals, and imagined places, and uses bold color to build compositions and create scenes that feel inviting at first glance but reveal something unsettling beneath the surface.

Her solo exhibition Space Hotel was on view at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts from February to August 2026 and then traveled to Conduit Gallery in Dallas, where it was presented in the Project Room from September to October 2026 as her first exhibition in the city. At the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, she took part in the museum’s 2025 biennial, created an animation installation for the group exhibition Seamless: Art and Design that was on view from April to August 2026, and was artist in residence in May 2026. Her first solo painting exhibition was at Pairo’s Gallery in Richmond in 2023, and her animation work has been exhibited at CADAF Miami. She is a recipient of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Visual Arts Fellowship in Painting for 2026–2027.

Her animated films have screened internationally at festivals including Pictoplasma and the LA Film Festival, and her directing and animation work has earned an Emmy nomination and the Art Directors Club Young Guns Award in 2013. Her public work includes commissions with MTA Arts & Design at Grand Central Madison and the Fulton Center in New York, and her animation Dancing on the Hedonic Treadmill was shown on the Nasdaq screen in Times Square, presented by GIPHY Arts.

Bruner has lectured at conferences including Pictoplasma and Playgrounds, gave the 2023 VCUarts commencement address, and has mentored MFA thesis students at the School of Visual Arts. She is also the co-founder and curator of the Richmond Animation Festival. She received her BFA in Kinetic Imaging from Virginia Commonwealth University and lived in New York City from 2007 to 2019 before returning to Richmond, where she lives and works.
